Becoming Universally Attractive

Randy Joy @ 11:00 am

Cheers, the hit TV program when I was growing up, made a memorable statement in its opening song that remains in my memory for its truth.  “You want to go where everyone knows your name.”    It’s true, even today.

Employees want to work for companies where they are respected as people and where their individual purpose, principles and talents are nurtured.  Here’s how to make your company environment one in which people want to be:

1. Seek and respect everyone’s opinion.

2. Provide and encourage growth opportunities.

3. Align your company’s values with how you attract employees, customers, vendors and how you make company decisions.  And live by it.  Values are only as powerful as how often they are acted upon.

4. Create a company environment that blossoms and transforms.  Joy, peace and positive energies are contagious.  Create the environment where those feelings come through.

Truth

Randy Joy @ 9:00 am

A short story of a CEO who knew how to negotiate a dispute.  He was CEO of a major law firm arbitrating between two parties.

The dispute was getting heated and the CEO stopped and asked, “what is the right thing here?“  He wasn’t asking for who could yell louder or felt more wronged.  He did not ask who had the more valid attorney or more effective partner.  He asked himself, and then asked them all, “what is the right thing?”

Right and wrong are truths, and when we ask for right we are asking to find out the truth.  As the CEO of your business, it is always important to stop and ask what is the right thing to do.

When you create a company that is an extension of you, your values of right and wrong join into the core of the business.  It is, so to speak, your truth.  So this week, if your employees quarrel or a customer complains, keep in mind that the goal is to find out what is the right thing to do – and do it strongly with conviction and with respect for yourself and what you truly value.

This is what a true leader does, heads for truth. When you do so, others, will follow you.

You

Randy Joy @ 10:44 am

You (the Y in the word Happy) is where it all begins.

H- Home

A – Assets

P – Profit

P – Perpetual Revenue

Y – You

The business starts with you: what you believe in; what others perceive in you; how you want to lead; where you want to go; among other explorations about yourself that you will need to undertake in order to plan out your business.  Your mission, purpose and beliefs have to coincide with those of your business.

I wrote a previous blog on becoming very self aware at http://randyjoy.com/2010/01/the-mind-blog/.  When you know yourself-your beliefs, strengths and weaknesses – clearly, you can begin to bring on partners, investors, customers and employees who will be attracted to the confidence you will exude.  Self-awareness, whether it is about your business, allows you to project your image that much more strongly and convincingly to others.

Walmart started and grew out of Sal Walton’s mission to get the lowest prices for his customers.  That is who he was, a bargain hunter.  Therefore, he flew economy class.  His mission was tied to everything he and his company did.  And sure enough, bargain hunters of the world love his company.  They found a kindred spirit, so to speak, in their quest for savings.

What do you believe in?  When your insides are in sync with your company’s appearance and operations, that symphony will lead to success.

Discover You, and in doing so, complete the steps to becoming a Happy business owner.

Becoming a HAPPY Business Owner

Randy Joy @ 12:20 pm

Happiness in your business is often times directly related to the amount of work you put into your venture. That is why, if you invest your whole self, dive all the way in and work really hard, you will derive more pleasure than if your business was instantly successful.

I will take the concept of Happy business owners and analyze it one letter at a time, showing you one step at a time of what needs to happen to give you a positive business experience.

H – Home

A – Assets

P – Profit

P – Perpetual Revenue

Y – You

Home.

This is your first priority as we discussed in the Personal Home blog (http://randyjoy.com/2010/04/personal-home/). What are your boundaries in life? If you put your business in front of your home life, be sure there will be a backlash at home. Know why you are working and be thankful for your support.

Assets.

This is the second most important piece of your business. If you stopped going to work tomorrow, what would your business be worth tomorrow?

Profit.

The more profit you have and the quicker you collect customer revenue, the higher your cash flow. This combination will increase your survivability rate and create a business system that you can replicate and grow.

Perpetual Revenues.

There is no business without revenues. This is the first step in starting a business, get the revenue line flowing.

You.

You must be true to yourself in your business. It is best to do what you love and what you are passionate about. Your positive attitude will attract investors, employees and customers. Being self aware is the first step to choosing the right business, your position in the company and your long term goals.

Personal HOME

Randy Joy @ 2:18 pm

You are a business owner. The very first thing you should be doing when you decide to make changes is create or edit your personal home.

Your personal home includes all the things that are the most important to you – your family, beliefs, hobbies or anything else that you could not live without. These make up the boundaries for your business, lines that no matter what the sacrifice in the business you are not willing to cross. These boundaries are made clear to those who work with you; but especially to yourself. Remember money is an illusion. True happiness come from getting the Big Picture of your life together.

Next how do you choose to see the world? As it is? As the nightly news projects it, through the lenses of entertainment or through your friends’ viewpoints? Decide on having your own glasses through which you view the world, and try to color it rose-hued. Or to put it bluntly, have your own sense of self and the world that is an expression of your thoughts and perspective.

As soon as you are crystal clear what your boundaries are, you can begin to welcome other people into your sphere without worrying about them threatening your business culture, your own identity or the mission you are passionate about sharing.

Thinking about Values

Randy Joy @ 8:32 am

If you have a little boy anywhere in your home, come night and you empty his pants pockets, you’re likely to end up with a pile of junk.  Odd screws, loose keys, some bits of raffle paper and anything else the kid found somewhere on a sidewalk.  You can even find bugs that he intended for his bug collection.  Junk, you say, and toss the whole sweat-encrusted, linty pile right into the dustbin.  From your young one comes the complaint, “aww, no, ma, that was my precious stuff.”

You are a business owner, and, as such, have an assortment of “valuable” things you think in your business.  Is the value in the brand name, patented technology or copyright revenue stream or fame and fortune or is it flexibility?  That is all very “valuable” and all that…but you need to think value a bit differently too.  You have to try to project how the business will be valued on a future sale – based on the hard assets of the business such as real estate, equipment, or design.

As a business artist I have helped business owners uncover the true value of their business and themselves.  What are yours?
