The Resilient Business Consultant

Randy Joy @ 2:00 pm

This morning I fell down right there on the New York street, scratching my knee and elbow.  I fell with a smile and picked myself up with a smile.  As a New York Business Consultant I have seen many businesses fall and pick themselves right up with a new plan, direction or resiliency.  It is these strong entrepreneurs who courageously decide to succeed no matter what.

Think of the business growth greats like Ray Croc of McDonalds who did not find his business stride and the right idea until he was in his 50s.

As a Business Consultant I have seen that it does not matter where you start your business journey - only how resilient you are to succeed.  If this week you fall, try to do it smiling and courageously.  Pick yourself up for just around the corner might be your million dollar opportunity.

Becoming Universally Attractive

Randy Joy @ 11:00 am

Cheers, the hit TV program when I was growing up, made a memorable statement in its opening song that remains in my memory for its truth.  “You want to go where everyone knows your name.”    It’s true, even today.

Employees want to work for companies where they are respected as people and where their individual purpose, principles and talents are nurtured.  Here’s how to make your company environment one in which people want to be:

1. Seek and respect everyone’s opinion.

2. Provide and encourage growth opportunities.

3. Align your company’s values with how you attract employees, customers, vendors and how you make company decisions.  And live by it.  Values are only as powerful as how often they are acted upon.

4. Create a company environment that blossoms and transforms.  Joy, peace and positive energies are contagious.  Create the environment where those feelings come through.

3 Ways to Energize Your Company This Year

Randy Joy @ 10:00 am

Revitalization:  that’s the word used by my real estate clients regarding their work in various cities.  That’s also the word used by my medical practitioner clients when speaking of bringing vitality and energy back to life.  In your company, how do you revitalize yourself, your team and your vision?

Commit to bringing verve and energy to your company.  Here is the recipe for revitalizing business:

1. Revisit your mission and vision.  Take out your old business plan, dust it off, and edit it to bring it more up-to-date with new goals and growth plans.

2. Attract new clients.  Think of a new client base, as well as new marketing slants.

3. Think up a bonus system to get employees enthusiastic about growing the company.

5 Business Leadership Traits

Randy Joy @ 11:00 am

Ever stand at the front of the train?  You have a clear direction of where you are going, what’s ahead of you and what’s behind you.  Pity the other passengers who are there in the back of the train just sitting and being led.  The conducter, he is in the future, arriving at every destination first.  All others must merely be second-comers at all times, because they don’t stand at the front.

In your business, are you a passive follower going places others have steered towards way before you?  Or are you in the front car leading the entire market?

Here is how to lead:

1. Be aware of when you are leading or following
2. Always try to see when opportunities present themselves
3. If a door of opportunity presents itself, take it if it is consistent with your company’s values and vision
4. Differentiate, differentiate, differentiate
5. Become the artist of your industry

Leadership Responsibility – Ways to Reduce Crashes

Randy Joy @ 10:00 am

This week, in a massive pileup on a Japanese highway, eight Ferraris, three Mercedes, a Lamborghini, along with some other cars ended up totaled.  At fault, the lead car, a high-speed Ferrari whose driver made a mistake when changing lanes on a wet road.

As the CEO or leader of your organization, are you careful how you change directions?  Do you think of what pileup might happen behind you, if you don’t lead your team responsibly?

Any time you need to “change lanes” in your business, plot it out carefully.  Make a plan which shows what changes are to be made, the length of time to execute the changes without any mishaps, and the parties responsible for helping make the change.  This way, changes won’t make your business spin out of control.

Gain Business Clarity

Randy Joy @ 3:00 pm

I woke up this morning, and it was am extremely foggy day in New York.  So fogged up, in fact that I could hardly see the street down below.  I wonder how often my clients feel in a fog leading their companies, unable to see the road ahead.  I know when I led my companies, those murky days were not a pleasant feeling.

This is why I took time each week to remove myself from the day-to-day activities of my company to realign myself with the true purpose of the company; long term vision; and the strategic goals ahead of me to perform even during a foggy day.

Do you take time each week to realign yourself and bring clarity to your company?

A True Gift

Randy Joy @ 10:00 am

An age-old adage:  He who bestows a gift must inform the receiver of the gift.

Charity can and preferrably should be given silently, slipped in secretly.  Gifts, however, should not, because gifts have value as a catalyst and strengthener of human relationships.

Employees who go above and beyond their duties, but do it silently, thwart any chance of the boss encouraging them to continue.  And that, in turn, leads to the employee, of course, tapering off  those efforts.

A boss increasing how much he’s contributing to employees’ health plan without communicating how much he is investing in them each year, will be frustrated when employees take it for granted and don’t note that he appreciates them. That, in turn, can lead to a breakdown of cooperative efforts and goodwill.

True gifts require the recipient to know they have received a gift.  For that is what makes the gift create a healthy, reciprocal human relationship.

Have you let others know what you have gifted them?

Bounded by Boundaries

Randy Joy @ 1:00 pm

To be a strong leader you must recognize you have boundaries, as do others.  Boundaries are those things that when crossed you feel an emotional response.  Protecting your boundaries may cause conflict.  However, not protecting your boundaries leada to inner strife and turmoil that usually explodes into more bitter conflict.

Better to protect your boundaries before they are crossed, than deal with the ugly aftermath.

As a strong leader, know those who you deal with also have boundaries.  Learn to recognize them.  And definitely respect them.

Boundaries delineate for all the parameters of emotional space that create a healthy working environment.
