Don’t Uncover Your Team’s Needs Yourself

Randy Joy @ 10:00 am

"The Business Think"

While you might know your business inside and out and know where you want to take it (if you have done business planning),  there are areas that will remain hidden to you.

One of the keys to energizing your team is to listen to them.  This way they feel a sense of ownership and feel valued.  However, the mistake some CEOs make is to do it themselves.

A big issue most CEOs have is that not many employees feel secure enough to be honest with them.  In fact, many members of an organization’s team will tell the boss what they think the CEO wants to hear.  How likely will they be to tell him what they think is being done the wrong way or uncover real issues in the company?  How encouraged will the employees be when you don’t take action on their ideas?

We uncover the true issues for our clients as outside business consultants with the sole objective of revealing ways to help your company grow.  A benefit to both the employee who wants more opportunities to grow and be part of the process and to the owners who want an energized team and growth.  There are times, you ought to call in an outside party…just so you can have a clearer inside look.

The Resilient Business Consultant

Randy Joy @ 2:00 pm

This morning I fell down right there on the New York street, scratching my knee and elbow.  I fell with a smile and picked myself up with a smile.  As a New York Business Consultant I have seen many businesses fall and pick themselves right up with a new plan, direction or resiliency.  It is these strong entrepreneurs who courageously decide to succeed no matter what.

Think of the business growth greats like Ray Croc of McDonalds who did not find his business stride and the right idea until he was in his 50s.

As a Business Consultant I have seen that it does not matter where you start your business journey - only how resilient you are to succeed.  If this week you fall, try to do it smiling and courageously.  Pick yourself up for just around the corner might be your million dollar opportunity.

Business Vision Planning in the New Year

Randy Joy @ 10:00 am

Lions are strong, the king of the jungle.  They have power, speed, and strength.  Yet, a simple spider when joined by a team becomes stronger.    As an Ethopian proverb says, “when spiders unite they can tie down a lion.

When your team has a vision and a strong leader they want to follow, they can tie down almost any vision.  Do you see the power of uniting your whole team?  Are you spinning a web of strength?

Quick questions to ponder:  Does every position in your organization have a clear, consistent job description?  Is every task/job assigned to a key team player?  Do you have a way of evaluating team players to make sure you are all heading to the same vision of success?   Does every employee know the business vision or mission or do they have tunnel vision of seeing only their isolated job functions?  Are there growth benefits or reward systems put into place to motivate employees to help  you reach your vision?

How to Create a Business Vision Statement

Randy Joy @ 1:00 pm

As Ghandi said, “you must be the change you wish to see in the world”.  As the business leader of your company, when you change a small part of yourself and model the new behavior, you change the very fabric of the company’s culture.  The secret of change is to know where you are headed by having a clear vision and by putting one foot in front of the other.

Here is how:

1. Become very clear what it looks like when you business is all done.  Paint that picture in your mind.

2. Write down what you see in that “mind’s picture”.  Included details of  that business such as how many people are employed, clients, where it will be located, how much revenue, and what is it known for.

3. Share your vision with everyone you know – your employees, friends, and family.  Let everyone you know help you get there.

Business Vision Statements are always the starting point, the seed of an idea.  The next step will be to expand that into a more lengthy and detailed business plan.

Even if your business has been around for generations, it still needs a clear vision statement and a detailed business plan.  Accelerate your company’s success and profits by ensuring these plans are in place.

Growth is a Choice – Summon Success

Randy Joy @ 10:00 am

On my way to work today, I stood there waiting and waiting and then waiting some more for the elevator to come.  This was weird, why wasn’t the elevator coming?  It took a few moments and then I realized — I hadn’t pressed the button.  Elevators will come when summoned, but they can’t read our minds yet.  And, if you don’t press that button, you might wait for that elevator forever.

How often in your  business do you realize you are just waiting instead of proactively making choices and plans?

Growth is a choice.  It doesn’t just happen to you.  This year choose to grow and take action.

Press the right buttons in business to summon success to it.  For it will happen only when you plan to make it happen.

And planning must be done with eye for detail, the who, the what, the why, the when…and the cost of it all.

3 Things New College Graduates Want

Randy Joy @ 1:00 pm

Yesterday I interviewed two Ivy League grads, newly initiated into the work world.  Very clearly they are so grateful to have jobs – both at the top of the chain in Law and Media.  They shared insights of what they and their peers want.

It boils down to three things, they said.  What do they want?

1. Security

2. To learn

3. To grow

In your business, are you providing an environment to fulfill these needs?  Can you attract the new talent?

Becoming Universally Attractive

Randy Joy @ 11:00 am

Cheers, the hit TV program when I was growing up, made a memorable statement in its opening song that remains in my memory for its truth.  “You want to go where everyone knows your name.”    It’s true, even today.

Employees want to work for companies where they are respected as people and where their individual purpose, principles and talents are nurtured.  Here’s how to make your company environment one in which people want to be:

1. Seek and respect everyone’s opinion.

2. Provide and encourage growth opportunities.

3. Align your company’s values with how you attract employees, customers, vendors and how you make company decisions.  And live by it.  Values are only as powerful as how often they are acted upon.

4. Create a company environment that blossoms and transforms.  Joy, peace and positive energies are contagious.  Create the environment where those feelings come through.

3 Ways to Energize Your Company This Year

Randy Joy @ 10:00 am

Revitalization:  that’s the word used by my real estate clients regarding their work in various cities.  That’s also the word used by my medical practitioner clients when speaking of bringing vitality and energy back to life.  In your company, how do you revitalize yourself, your team and your vision?

Commit to bringing verve and energy to your company.  Here is the recipe for revitalizing business:

1. Revisit your mission and vision.  Take out your old business plan, dust it off, and edit it to bring it more up-to-date with new goals and growth plans.

2. Attract new clients.  Think of a new client base, as well as new marketing slants.

3. Think up a bonus system to get employees enthusiastic about growing the company.
